Allen Americans (CHL) sign three former Dayton Bombers players

The Allen Americans, a CHL affiliate of the Dallas Stars signed Jarret Lukin, Justin Bowers, and Christian Gaudet formerly of the Dayton Bombers. Here is the official Press Release. Good to see that these guys have found a home and that they are together. Also, in the mix is the guy we know and love from the past several seasons of the Bombers. I am not going to reveal his name, but you can probably guess based on the fight image below. Also, for those of you familiar with the Bombers, take a look at who is the Director of Player Personnel.

Dayton Bombers suspend operations

According to Associates Press, The Bombers will suspend Operations. The Bombers are the second longest tenured team in the ECHL with 18 years of membership and have until June 24th to tell the league officials about their plans for next year.

What ever happens next year, I enjoyed being the Bombers team photographer and wish the players and staff all the best. I’ll be posting the best images from the last couple of seasons in the upcoming weeks.

Cyclones romped over Bombers

Cincinnati Cyclones rolled into the Nutter Center and rolled over the Dayton Bombers last night 6-0. It was a very uninspired performance from the home team and the Cyclones forced a Bombers goalie change by continually forcing turnovers. The Bombers have two games left this weekend against Trenton.

Dayton Bombers “Old School Hockey” night

Yesterday, the Nutter Center crowd was treated to an exhabition of some “Old School Hockey”. Half way through the second period, there was a standard 1 on 1 bout , which quickly turned into an “I went to a boxing match and a hockey game broke out”. During the frackas, the Elmira Jackals received a game misconduct , a match penalty and an assortment of other infractions. The result was that the Bombers ended up with a 5 on 3 power play for close to 5 minutes. Here is a picture of Bombers enforcer Britt Dougherty in the penalty box after he heard that he can get back on the ice and a pic of the penalties assessed during the second period altercations. Chris Brown Hockey Pic

In December 2007, I happened to be photographing the Dayton Bombers vs. Cincinnati Cyclones Hockey at the US Bank Arena in Cincinnati. The US Bank Arena was getting ready to host a musician by the name of Chris Brown. I had no idea whom Chris Brown was, but when I knew that he was going to be dropping the ceremonial puck, I decided to photograph the event. I now know whom Chris Brown is you probably do as well…at least as far as has been reported. Anyway here he is in happier times.

Dayton Bombers defeat Wheeling Nailers at Hobart

Tonight I photographed the Bombers game vs the Wheeling Nailers. I believe this is the 45th time that these teams have met this year. Actually it is their 11th meeting out of 14 total games this year…it just seems that they are always playing each other. Most importantly, the Bombers won the game 3-2.

I was able to shoot the 2nd and 3rd periods from the catwalk above the Hobart Arena. I find that having different shooting spots at sports venues allows my creative juices to flow and also gives a different perspective to the images. Here is a shot of the Bombers Goalie David Shantz. Ordinarily, this is a just an ordinary image of a goalie facemask…

…until you climb up a steep catwalk ladder so that you can look closer on the back of the helmet. You can see a little insignia “Jeremiah 29:11″. This verse reads: “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” I found it interesting, because had I photographed David from my regular locations, I would not have seen this verse. Additionally, having spoken to David only once before, it provides additional insight into his personality and belief system.
