Don’t be that guy!!!!

Have you ever talked on your cell phone in a public area, such as a library, bus, restaurant? Yep, me neither, which is why I am writing this post. Today, I saw something that I’ve never see before. Sure, I have seen people talking in inappropriately confined spaces, but this was something new altogether. I photographed the MVKWA event at Nutter Center today and during the National Anthem, this guy pulls out a cell phone and starts a conversation. I wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt, but there was no urgency in his voice, such as “…You were in an accident…?” or “…You didn’t tell me you were pregnant…” or “What do you mean SCOTUS rejected our Amicus Curiae?. Instead it was “Yea, sure, Ok. I’ll meet you there…” this went on for almost the entire Anthem at which point the guy said, “I have to go because they are playing the NATIONAL ANTHEM”. Seriously???? Again don’t be that guy!!!!

Brady the Jr. Director at Disney’s Indiana Jones Spectacular

It has been quite a week for my son Brady. This time he was asked to say the three MAGIC words as a Jr. Director at Disney’s Indiana Jones Spectacular. He did very well considering he was on stage in front of about two thousand screaming fans.

On Sunday, my 5 year old son Brady was selected to be in the select group of youngsters to attend the prestigious Jedi Training Academy at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. He battled Darth Vader for his final test. Here is the video:

The Stanley Cup visits Dayton

I had a chance to photograph THE Stanley Cup last night. According to the NHL Official who drove straight from Toronto, there is only one Cup. There are rumors that there are more than one Stanley Cup, but I am not about to try to prove the validity of this claim. The Cup is now under a 24/7 NHL oversight, perhaps due to allegations of “Bad Behavior” by past Cup winners. There are also claims of bad luck befalling any aspiring hockey player touch the Cup prior to winning it at the NHL Finals. Not wishing for my sins to be visited upon my son, I did not touch the Cup.Needless to say, my son did not want to tempt fate and steered clear of The Cup.

Stanley Cup coming to Dayton

ProAct Image will be on hand this weekend as the Stanley Cup makes its way to Dayton. The Cup will be on display at the Nutter Center during the Bombers games on Friday and Saturday nights. It is here in part due to a local fundraiser for an injured 14 year old hockey player named Kyle Cannon from Oregon Clay High School outside of Toledo. Additionally, a silent auction will be held in support of the Kyle Cannon Fund to include the following:

Featured silent auction items include: 2008-09 team autographed Boston Bruins jersey, 2005-06 team autographed Washington Capitals jersey (including Alex Ovechkin) and Alexander Semin autographed puck, Columbus Blue Jackets team autographed stick and Mike Commodore autographed helmet, Colorado Avalanche Joe Sakic autographed puck, Tampa Bay Lightning Dave Andreychuk autographed hat, New Jersey Devils Paul Martin autographed stick, New York Islanders Clark Gillies jersey and autographed photos from the Minnesota Wild and Edmonton Oilers. Also available for bidding is an Ohio State University team autographed stick, a 2008-09 Cincinnati Cyclones team autographed stick and helmet, a game-worn Dan Fritsche USA 2005 WJC jersey and many more items from the ECHL and NCAA teams. 100% of the proceeds from the auction will benefit the Cannon Family Fund, along with chuck-a-puck proceeds and 50/50 raffle sales.

DC Fireworks – Once in a lifetime shot

In July 2007, I captured a once in a lifetime image of what I loosely call the “DC Fireworks”. Many people have intimated that I either doctored the image or somehow faked it. This post details exactly what happened.

Alright, so what happened?

As the fireworks came to an end at 9:30, I stuck around to do some long exposure images. All of the photographers have cleared out as soon as the show was over so when this image was shot, there was virtually no one there to see it. At about 10:07PM or about 12 hours after arriving to the site earlier in the day, there were a series of explosions at the base of the Lincoln Memorial. According to the news, a large morter shell failed to go off during the show and instead exploded about 30 minutes after the finally. Click HERE for the link to accident notes.

So even though the image was not created during the fireworks show, I still refer to it as a Fireworks image. Here are additional images from the accident sequence.

McCain Rally in Kettering

Republican Presidential Nominee John McCain held a rally today at the Trent Arena in Kettering. The crowd was rather subdued as compared to my recently observed rallies of John McCain and Barack Obama.

Barack Obama visits Dayton

Yesterday I photographed Barack Obama’s speech on Energy policy at Stivers High School in Dayton. The speech was attended by over 500 supporters who began lining up to get their seat up to four hours prior to the event. Prior to the speech the crowd joined into spontaneous cheers of “O-Bama” and “Yes We Can”. To show that this is not a partisan venture, I also photographed President Bush’s visit to Dayton back in March. Check it out HERE.
